Building a Life That Shows Belief or Not

“Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways.”Proverbs 4:26, NIV

oIMG_1835Do you believe in God? The question seems to demand only a simple yes or no answer. What it really demands is living proof.

If we really believe in God, our actions will reflect that belief. And I’m not only talking about whether or not we yield to temptation. I’m talking about our reactions to stress or bad news. I’m talking about the way we treat all people who cross our path. I’m talking about one, seemingly insignificant decision made after another, building a life that shows steady trust in God—or not.

This is not an easy thing, this living each day, all day, for God. But people are watching. They notice when we say we’ve placed our lives in God’s hands. They also notice if our choices contradict that statement.

Do we really believe in God? If so, we’ll give careful thought to the paths for our feet, asking God to help us choose the paths that honor His name. We’ll also ask Him for strength to persevere when the terrain is rocky or steep or skirting the edge of a cliff. God is faithful to His children, wherever He leads. If we move forward with confidence, others will see that we really do believe.

The author of Hebrews referred to Proverbs 4:26 in chapter 12 in order to make this point:

“Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees. ‘Make level paths for your feet,’ so that the lame may not be disabled, but rather healed.’”Hebrews 12:12-13, NIV

When we move forward in God’s strength and confidence, others will follow, finding the same strength and confidence for their own life journeys. God will use our growing faith to grow other people’s faith, and this will glorify His name.

Father, please help me to make careful decisions each day. Help me to not get lost in emotions or emergencies, but to act in calm assurance that You are with me, You are helping me, You love me, You are able to do all You have promised to do. I believe, Lord. Let my actions show it—for the good of others, for the glory of Your awesome name. Thank You, Lord. Amen.
