Book Review: The NIV Life Journey Bible

NIV Life Journey BibleI’ve read several books by Drs. Henry Cloud and John Townsend, including Boundaries and Cloud’s Changes That Heal, so I was pretty excited to learn about the NIV Life Journey Bible. First and foremost, this work contains the complete text of the NIV Bible in its most recent edition. Scattered throughout in blue boxes or edge highlighting are features provided by Cloud and Townsend to help readers apply Bible truths to their lives, particularly in regard to spiritual, emotional, and relational growth.

I’ve read a few other Bibles arranged this way with devotional insights from popular authors’ works placed in relevant spots. I expected to find the same here. I was happy to note that the features placed alongside the Bible text by Cloud and Townsend appear to be unique to it or to have been developed specifically for this work based on precepts from their other works (as opposed to being cut and pasted or quoted directly from other works). I appreciate that! The features I am most excited about are the character profiles (30+), essays (20), and insights (300!), though I appreciate the book introductions, too. Other references include reading plans, a subject index, and “where to find it.”

The only downside for me was the ink. People with a sensitivity to newsprint may have trouble reading this Bible. I have to read the Bible text from a different Bible, then the insights, just one at a time, in a well-ventilated area. I’ve never been allergic to a book before! And this one is a Bible?! I guess there’s a first time for everything.

I received a complimentary copy of the NIV Life Journey Bible from the BookLook Blogger program in exchange for this honest review.
